A Letter to Time
World Watch Day 2026

A Letter to Time explores the dialogue between time, memory and watchmaking through handwritten words, blue ink and gold leaf.

About the Artwork

Handwritten words place a personal trace beside the precision of watchmaking. Blue ink carries the gesture across the work, while gold leaf brings light to its surface: an invitation to consider what time measures and what memory preserves.

The Charity Auction

Created for World Watch Day 2026, this unique original is offered through a 250-hour auction organised personally by Mauro Carraro. Mauro undertakes to allocate the entire auction price actually received, reduced only by refunds or financial reversals, to a charitable beneficiary. He bears the costs of the work, framing, organisation and payment processing.

The Fonds Pierre Amstutz is the intended beneficiary, subject to its acceptance; no institutional agreement or partnership is represented as already obtained. If its acceptance and verified transfer arrangements are unavailable within 60 days after full payment, the same amount will be allocated to the Association des Amis de la Fondation Battenberg through its official donation channel. Transfer takes place within 90 days after full payment, under the published auction terms.

The work

Three numerical satellites form a date: 10·10·26. In this original work from Letter to Time, the architecture of a wandering-hour watch becomes a commemoration of World Watch Day.

Around the drawn watch, a handwritten letter reflects on Mauro Carraro’s discovery of watchmaking in Geneva: the craftspeople, encounters and friendships that grew from a shared fascination with time. Curiosity brings people into conversation, across differences of experience and background.
