An encounter drawn from life
A portrait begins with an encounter. Sitting face to face with Mauro Carraro, the drawing develops through observation, conversation and the small changes in expression that occur between them.
Working directly from life, Mauro follows the particular character of each sitter. A gesture, the position of a hand or the way someone holds themselves can become as important to the composition as the features of the face.

Blue ink, a singular portrait
A face, a gesture, the quiet character of a person. With a fountain pen, Mauro brings them to paper in blue ink, moving from a fine contour to a wash of shadow. Touches of gold catch the light. Each portrait finds its own balance of line, tone and presence.

An original made in your presence
A portrait created during a sitting takes shape in the presence of the person it represents. Observation and conversation guide the drawing: an expression, a posture or a familiar gesture gives the image its character. Blue ink moves between precise lines and softer passages of tone. The finished work carries a trace of the encounter, as well as a likeness.
