Read the material notes

The Starry Varius is drawn within a field of handwriting. The watch remains the composition’s focal point, while the surrounding letter gives the eye another scale of attention: the watch can be read from a distance; the words ask for a closer encounter.

Blue ink and gold leaf bring two different kinds of light to the sheet. The ink describes the watch and carries the writing; the leaf reflects the light around the work.
